The Average Mobile Phone Contains More Bacteria Than A Toilet Seat
Mobile phone retailer Dial-a-Phone conducted the study taking swabs from everyday objects and analyzing the bacteria found on them. The results found that there's more muck on our mobiles than the average door handle, keyboard, and bottom of a shoe or even a toilet seat.
The study found that without cleaning and disinfecting your mobile phone and keyboard on a regular basis, more bacteria could spread potentially causing illness.
The research confirmed the presence of skin bacteria including staphylococcus aureus on the phone, keyboard, toilet seat and door handle. The shoe in contrast had bacteria from the soil and air.
Joanne Verran, Professor of Microbiology at Manchester Metropolitan University comments: "Mobile phones, like many everyday objects such a telephones and computer keyboards, harbor bacteria. However, being 'mobile', they are stored in bags or pockets, are handled frequently, and held close to the face. In other words, they come into contact with more parts of our body and a wider range of bacteria than toilet seats!"
"The phones contained more skin bacteria than the any other object; this could be due to the fact that this type of bacteria increases in high temperatures and our phones are perfect for breeding these germs as they're kept warm and cozy in our pockets, handbags and brief cases. These bacteria are toxic to humans, and can cause infections if they have the opportunity to enter the body."

Sony Ericsson SO703i: Scented Mobile Phone
Ever wished your phone to have a signature scent like you, perhaps? Looks like this wish has benn granted as Sony Ericsson, via the NTT DoCoMo network has released the SO703i which comes with scented sheets that can be replaced by chnaging the cover panel. What's more, there are 9 scents to choose from so your phone can have a new scent every day or for every occassion. it's only available in Japan, though.
Handsets which no longer act as dumb instruments which can help in communication but even release a scent which would relax the user. Science Fiction ? Not really, if NTT DoCoMo has its way. Created by Sony Ericsson, the SO703i cell phone comes with choices of nine aroma smells for the user. Different aromas can be selected by changing the cover panel , each of which has a distinctive scented sheet. Another handset also announced simultaneously by NTT is made by Mitsubishi and seems to derive inspiration from the Nintendo DS. The name of the cell phone is also un-imaginative as the D800iDS. More importantly, the form factor is clam shell and just like the Nintendo DS it comes with dual touch screens and can be controlled by a stylus. As an added advanta to users, they would be able to send hand written messages and drawings in the form of email attachments using the built-in program of the phone.
Upcoming Motorola phones revealed by Motorola executive
Motorola's Ron Garriques, president of mobile devices, recently gave anxious investors a sneak peek at the company's upcoming handsets. The presentation has been posted online [PDF]. Look for these announcements soon.
As expected, many of Motorola's upcoming announcements will be 3G handsets.
Garriques also mentioned the upcoming SCPL (Scalpel) line of handsets. The presentation notes that these devices will be broadband capable, but does not hint at a launch date. Motorola has been talking about SCPL for over a year and it was originally believed to be the successor to the RAZR (which the KRZR ended up doing instead).
